Walking in Sligo

We think there is probably a walk for every day of the year here in Sligo. Whatever your preference – coastal, forest, rural or urban walks. Up hill or down dale Sligo has the walk you are looking for.

The best website to find them all is Sligo Walks. This extensive website will give you all the information you need and some gorgeous photos to inspire you. Here are some of the walks we’ve done so far.

The Sligo Walking Festival takes place in January. There are walks for all abilities.

For those who like some company when they are walking there are several walking groups and clubs too. Here are the ones we know about:

Wild Wet Adventures offer guided walks and hikes around South Sligo and the Ox Mountains.

Walking Groups

Sligo East City Walking Group meet at the Riverside Hotel most Thursday mornings at 10.15am. Occasionally they go walking elsewhere so give Sligo Sports and Recreation a call to check the details: 0719161511

North Sligo Walking Group meet every Wednesday in various locations throughout the county. All the walks are listed here.

South Sligo Walking Club meet the first Sunday of every month at the Heritage Centre next to Joe Dans pub. Phone Maureen 087 2771778 or Karina 087 9606180

Groups to join

Carran Walking Club is based in Geevagh they organise walks on the first and third Sundays of the month. They also run special walks such as moonlight walks and more.

Sligo Walking Club meet on a Tuesday and Saturday and have a variety of walks lined up for the coming weeks.

Enniscrone Walking Club meet on a Saturday and also have a great variety of walks listed until October.

Sligo Mountaineering Club meet every Sunday and hike mountains in various counties around the North West.
