Things to do in Sligo – June 2017
If you live in Sligo or are coming to visit
in June there are so many things happening. Here are just some suggestions for you, get a coffee and see what grabs your attention.
The Free Walking Tours of Sligo starts on June 1st from the Sligo Tourist Office at 11am on weekdays.
The Big Auction for Cairde Sligo Art Festival takes place on June 1st at the Riverside Hotel, Sligo. It’s always a fun night out and a great chance to grab a bargain.
A Vintage Day and Family Fun Day takes place on June 3rd at the Sligo Folk Park, Riverstown from 1pm – 5pm. Entry €10 per adult and children free with adults.
Join the Hop for the Hospice on the evenings of June 3rd and 4th when Sligo musicians will play in Stephen’s Street car park to raise funds for North West Hospice.
Benbulben Motor Show takes place at 12 noon on June 4th in Grange, Co. Sligo. This is a charity event in aid of the RNLI & Grange & Armada Development Association. You’ll get a chance to see Vintage, Classic, Retro and American Cars, Trucks, Bikes and Tractors on the day.
The Mayor’s Charity Ball takes place on June 4th at the Radisson Blu Hotel. Enjoy a meal and entertainment with proceeds going to charity. Tickets are €60, to book contact 086-3182529
June 7th is the first Wednesday of the month so it’s free to get into most OPW sites countrywide. In Sligo you can get free admission to Sligo Abbey and Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and also Parke’s Castle in Leitrim.
Sligo Food Trail – Tapas Trail runs from 8-10th June 2017. Local restaurants, gastro pubs and cafes will be offering tapas sized specialities will be offered along the Sligo Tapas Food Trail for just €5 per dish.
Lily and Lolly Craft Festival takes place from 10th to the 18th of June. There are lots events taking place during this week including workshops and talks. Yeats Day is on June 13th, join the celebrations for the birthday of the famous poet William Butler Yeats. More details can be found of the Lily Lolly Facebook page.
Get on your bike with Sligo Bike Week from 10th to the 18th of June. There are cycling lessons for adults, mountain bike sessions, pedal to paddle and more. Full details are here.
Street Feast takes place nationwide on June 11th. It’s a great chance to meet your neighbours and community and share a meal. In Sligo there are ones planned in Geevagh, Strandhill, Easkey and more. You can find out all the locations here.
If you want to find out more about the history of Sligo the Hawk’s Well Theatre are hosting ‘The Way We Were‘ on June 14th.
Lanterns of Hope Music Festival in aid of STOP suicide takes place on June 16th in the Stephen’s Street car park 6pm until 10.30pm . This is a family friendly free event but you can purchase lanterns to support the charity.
The Annual Benbulben Climb in aid of the Sligo Cancer Support Centre takes place on June 17th. This is weather dependent so keep an eye on their Facebook page for further updates.
Sligo Global Kitchen invite you to come and dine with them on June 17th, 3pm, at The Model. This is a fantastic idea to bring all the members of the community together and try food from different countries. It’s free but donations are welcome.
The Model holds their Family Day on June 18th from 11.30am until 3pm. More details can be found on their website.
Ransboro hold their annual 10k run on June 24th, there’s also a 5k walk and run taking place on the same day.
Join the Coney Island Experience on Saturday, 24th June 2017. Learn all about seaweed with Dr. Prannie Rhatigan and afterwards enjoy Lissadell mussels cooked on the beach by Tra Bán Restaurant and served with fresh breads from Shells Cafe. Booking: Call Tra Bán 0719128402 or online

The Sligo Markets:
Every Saturday you can visit Beltra Country Market, The Farmer’s Market at the IT Sligo, Rathcormac Country Market and Drummartin Country Market. Cliffoney Country Market takes place on the first and third Saturday of the month, they are celebrating their first birthday on June 4th so I’m sure there will be cake!
Strandhill People’s Market takes place every Sunday at Sligo airport from 11am – 4pm.
Eagle’s Flying in Ballymote is open every day with two flying shows a day and a lovely pet farm for all to enjoy. It’s a great day out for all the family and well worth a visit.
