The Caves of Kesh
I can’t believe it was only last year that I finally walked up to The Caves of Kesh/Keash. It really is a very special place and one that isn’t as popular as some of the other Sligo walks.
I really don’t know why though because out of all the walks I’ve done this would probably be my favourite. The views are just stunning. I went up as the sun was beginning to set, and it was magical.
I did get a bit scared standing in the big cave on my own though – but that’s because I have a vivid imagination and am always expecting someone to jump out at me!
The walk itself wasn’t too bad at all, it was mostly flat apart from one steep bit where I did struggle a little bit. That’s only because I’m not fit though. Next time I go up I’m hoping to fly up it – not literally 😉
You can continue on to top where you will see the Keshcorran cairn, I didn’t go that far though. I stopped at the caves. The caves are hard to miss as they are such a spectacular sight. Take the road from Ballymote heading to Boyle and they are just on the left before you get to the village of Keash.
To find out more information about the walk you can click here. There’s a really interesting article here telling you more about the history and other interesting facts about Keshcorran.
You did not stop by to share our labyrinth gardens and afternoon tea under the thatch? 🙂 Beautiful place at the Caves, though Leader never finished the track and it has got quite wrecked again now.
There’s still landowner issues to be resolved as we are trying to get a trail to include the cairn at the top, highest point in Co. Sligo
There’s a lovely Irish TV production including the caves and my tree labyrinth garden 🙂
I visited the caves in May last year John 🙂 Finished up something early in Ballymote, saw the sun setting and headed to the caves…I will certainly go back again and hopefully pay you a visit.
I must check out the Irish TV show – shame that the station has gone now.
