Pride of Place, Sligo
It’s been a busy few weeks in the South Sligo area as groups and communities prepared for Pride of Place. The Pride of Place awards are countrywide awards and representing Sligo were Coolaney and South & West Sligo Tourism.
Judges William Beatty & Donal Connolly first paid a visit to Castle Dargan where they met musicians, drama groups, tourism groups and festival groups. They heard about all what South and West Sligo has to offer and enjoyed golf and the Eagles Flying Experience.
Coolaney was next on the agenda. In this rural Sligo village the judges heard all about the plans for the new Mountain Bike Centre and Cafe Fia. They met local groups including the ICA, who are celebrating 50 years, Coolaney Tidy Towns, who have been award winners for over 20 years. They also enjoyed songs from Coolaney Gospel Choir and music and dance from local residents.
Well done to all involved in these events, as the judges said you are all winners just for being nominated.
