Places to Picnic in Sligo
So, we’ve checked the weather forecast and this weekend and next week are supposed to be nice. Especially Sunday. Let’s embrace the last of the summer hols and head out for a lovely picnic in Sligo. We’ve put together a list of places to picnic in Sligo for you.
Picnic In Poll Gorm
We can’t imagine anything nicer than grabbing a spot on the rocks beside Poll Gorm in Easkey, throwing down a blanket and enjoying some lovely food. Obviously with a dip in the pool there too. The views here are amazing. Check the tide times here. The tide needs to be out so make sure you time your visit well.
Lough Easkey
For a dramatic background, head to Lough Easkey. The lake is dark and mysterious but beautiful. There is one bench available. Sligo Walks have a trail to follow to walk off the picnic bulge!
Dunmoran Strand
Head to Dunmoran Strand with your swimming togs and a picnic blanket. Safe swimming conditions allow for experienced swimmers to enjoy the Green Coast Award waters. Good surf for beginners to be had too, read more info here
The Glen
A magical spot to take a moment to enjoy a sandwich and cake. Surrounded by ferns and rocks, the glen is very quiet (mostly) and peaceful. Stick to the clearing as it gets very muddy as you go further in. Wear wellies and bring a waterproof blanket to sit on! Please leave no trace.
Ladies Bray
A lovely designated picnic area awaits you at Ladies Bray. Possible another favourite of ours, we spent a good few days of our childhood hanging out around here. There are loads of walks over this way which you can check out over on Sligo Walks.
The running water is a lovely backdrop to eat your lunch to.
Sligo Peace Park
This walled park is a lovely place to picnic in Sligo. Lined by trees with a central platform, this is a lovely spot to head post your shop in the town.
