Online Bealtaine event celebrating the Showband era

In partnership with Age & Opportunity Bealtaine at Home 2020, The Model is hosting a unique online event on Wednesday, 20th May at 11.30 am. Artist Michael McLoughlin will facilitate a participatory discussion, celebrating the Showband era in Sligo and the surrounding counties. This reminiscence discussion is part of a participative social project, which the artist calls a ‘social sculpture’ — that remembers, documents and celebrates the Show Band era. Musicians and audiences of this distinct scene are especially invited to share their experiences with the artist.
This project will evolve with further reminiscence discussions to follow in the autumn, as the artist collects, records and documents this unique time in the Sligo/Leitrim music ecology. Book Here
Michael McLoughlin is a visual artist working in a wide variety of media including drawing, video, sculpture and sound. Since the mid-1990’s McLoughlin has consistently examined the value placed on feelings of ownership, belonging and connection experienced by both the individual and the collective.
Commissioned by The Model, this project is supported by Creative Sligo, and Age and Opportunity Bealtaine at Home 2020.
