Having a feast at Harvey’s Point

Yesterday Lucy and I headed up to Donegal. I was checking it out for possible locations for my Wild Atlantic Wayfarer project in association with LookWest and the Hawk’s Well Theatre and it seemed like a great idea to tie it in with a visit to Harvey’s Point to check out their Sunday lunch carvery which we’d heard so much about but never tried.

Gilbert the Getz is still sick so I hired a car from Enterprise (Tiger Woods…well it is a Golf!) and we had a lovely leisurely drive to St. John’s Point, Lucy wasn’t that impressed, she’s really not interested in scenery. So I just had a very brief look and on we went to Harvey’s Point.

Harvey’s Point is located on the shores of beautiful Lough Eske, amid the Bluestack Mountains. The views are stunning and would have been even nicer if we went on a better day but you can’t do anything about the weather.

Now on to the food part. Don’t read this if you are hungry! The Sunday Carvery Lunch is served in the ballroom, when we arrived we were welcomed by Diane who showed us to a lovely table by the window, overlooking Lough Eske. Diane explained how the buffet system worked and introduced us to our waiters. The overwhelming feeling is that everyone is so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. To begin with we were served soup and a roll after which we made our way to the room where the starters and desserts were. When I saw the chocolate fountain and all the mouth-watering desserts I almost when straight for them, but I thought I’d better not.

Carl was on hand to serve us salmon and prawns. There was also garlic bread, pizza, chicken wings, mussels and a large variety of salads. You could help yourself to anything you wanted and have as much or as little as you desired.

Now on to the main course, apologies for the bad photo, but it’ll give you an idea. There was a choice of turkey, gammon, beef, pork and lamb with various vegetables, three types of potatoes, stuffing, yorkshire pudding and all the sauces you could ever want.

During our main course I was delighted to see Noel Cunningham walking around and talking to all the guests. He came over and said hello to us and Lucy took a photo of us.

I was so excited to meet Noel I sent him a message on Twitter and bless him he came back again later in the day and gave me a hug 🙂 I also got to meet Deirdre, the proprietor of Harvey’s Point. It was lovely to meet both Noel and Deirdre in real life as I have been in contact with them over the Internet.

Now onto the desserts. I lost count of how many there were but there must have been over twenty. So be sure to wear loose trousers! Not only were there different types of cakes, there were crepes made to order, ice cream, trifles, the chocolate fountain and my personal favourite sticky toffee pudding. If cake isn’t your thing there is also a selection of cheese and crackers.

We really were spoilt for choice. I had to refrain from swimming in the chocolate fountain 😉 Honestly I’ve never seen a feast like it. We were also served tea or coffee to round off our meal, I think It’s safe to say I waddled out of Harvey’s Point. I was wishing we were staying there so I could have gone for a sleep!
