Glorious Goodies at Glencar teaShed

Lucy and I were delighted to go along to lovely Leitrim today to try out the Afternoon Tea at Glencar teaSHED. I’m sure you all know by now that I’m a big fan of cake and as I’ve been on a healthy eating kick I haven’t had any in ages so today was such a treat.

Leitrim may be one of the smallest counties in Ireland but it’s such a beautiful place to visit, if you’ve never been there it really is worth a visit. Glencar is just a short drive from Sligo town, in fact half of  Glencar Lake is in Sligo and the other half is in Leitrim.

Glencar Waterfall is where you’ll find the teaSHED. As we walked in I was very impressed by the large amount of tourist information, you could easily plan a couple of weeks in Leitrim and still not have enough time to do everything.

Now onto the food, we were welcomed by Sharlene and we were shown to a lovely table over-looking the lake. We were given the tea menu which had such a variety of different teas it was hard to choose one. I went for the Bed of Roses herbal tea which was delicious.

Sharlene presented us with three tiers of gorgeous looking food. The bottom tier was delicate sandwiches; chicken salad for me, mozzarella and pesto for Lucy and cucumber for both of us. There were also crisps and a salad which was a lovely touch.

The other two tiers were delicious looking cakes – I’m drooling now just writing this! It was very difficult to decide what to eat first but I went for their signature raspberry and white chocolate miniature scone which was lovely. We also had a plain scone each with jam and cream.

There was a miniature Oreo cheesecake, a Mint Aero traybake, a delicate coffee cake and my absolute favourite a lemon drizzle cake. Everything was just delicious and the lemon cake was the nicest I’ve ever tasted. To fool ourselves we were being healthy there were also red and green grapes. It was a struggle to finish it all – but we did!

Helen, the owner came over to have a chat to us, she’s absolutely brilliant with all the customers, she had time to chat to everyone and give them advice about what to see and do in the area. She really is a great ambassador for Leitrim. It’s interesting to know that the cafe sits on the site where in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s a Tea House already existed, ran by Helen’s great Aunts.

After our wonderful Afternoon Tea we waddled up to the waterfall, it really is spectacular and worth visiting in all weathers.

We are already planning a return visit to the teaSHED as not only is the food delicious but they also serve ice-cream sundaes that look amazing including a St. Patrick’s Sundae and a Pot of Gold! Sincere thank you to Helen, Sharlene and all at the teaSHED for our lovely afternoon.
