Linley Hamilton Quintet feat. Adam Nussbaum & Mark Egan

March 5, 2020 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Plus The Kobe Trio

Andersons Live 8pm March 5 2020 After a successful Northern Ireland tour and 3-day recording session in 2019, the Linley Hamilton Quintet follows up with an all-Ireland tour, to launch the fruits of their collaboration. Trumpeter Linley Hamilton welcomes back ace US jazz drummer Adam Nussbaum (John Abercrombie, Bob Berg, Michael & Randy Brecker, Eliane Elias, Gil Evans, Stan Getz and Mike Gibbs) and bassist Mark Egan (David Sanborn, Pat Metheny, Pointer Sisters) as well as some of the leading lights of Irish jazz, in launching their brand new album, ‘For the Record’, which features almost entirely original songs.

The band is made up of:

Adam Nussbaum drums
Mark Egan bass
Cian Boylan piano
Derek ‘DOC’ O’Connor sax
Linley Hamilton trumpet

Linley has assembled two legendary American jazzers and combined them with two individually different musicians in Cian Boylan and Derek O’Connor. Derek O’Connor, often seen on the Late Late Show house band on Irish TV, is the trailblazing saxophonist of immense technical power and drive, but with a melodic approach and Cian, the glue, the ensemble arranger and thinker who creates arena that provides freedom to the other players. Linley brings that experienced approach that mixes melodic fluency and a golden tone. As an ensemble, they combine beautifully and play a narrative that has had packed houses in Dublin, Moscow and Cork rising to their feet in a standing ovation.

The Kobe Trio, formed in late 2016, is a piano trio based in Sligo, in the west of Ireland. They came together through a love of improvised music, performing a blend of original, contemporary and classic instrumental jazz with an adventurous and passionate interplay. The atmospheric harmonies are contrasted with interlaced rhythmic grooves and collective improvisations. Combining the sounds scapes of Cinematic Orchestra with the syncopated rhythms of Phronesis and the jagged melodies of Thelonious Monk.

With Mark Murphy on piano, Jaimie Carswell on bass and Con Schmaucks on drums. The trio have played in some of the best jazz venues and events in the area including Sligo Jazz Festival, Cairde Arts Festival and The Model Contemporary Arts Centre.
