Album Launch: Shane Meehan with guests

Debut album launch featuring 20 original compositions. The concert will feature guests including two of Ireland’s greatest traditional musicians – Darren Breslin and Bríd Harper on box and fiddle to kick the night off . Macdara Ó’Faoláin, from Ring, Co. Waterford, will be backing on bouzouki alongside Kevin Brehony on piano all the way from Sligo.

Shane Meehan, a fiddle player from Carrick-on-Shannon Co. Leitrim was initially taught by his grandfather John Meehan who was a flute and fiddle player. He grew up playing with local musicians Damian O’Brien, Oliver Loughlin and Padraig McGovern to name a few. In his teens he took an interest in composition and this soon led to his involvement in the first Leitrim Equation project in 2009 alongside Lúnasa. Two reels composed by Shane featured on the subsequent album The Leitrim Equation which was the culmination fo the project with Lúnasa and local musicians.Since then Shane has gone on to win an All-Ireland with The Moylurg Céilí Band and their album The Rest is History includes a set of tunes composed by Shane. Shane has also appeared on Geantraí and An Samhradh Linn playing his own compositions alongside Seán Gilrane, Lorraine Sweeney, Daithí Gormley and John McCartin.

Bríd Harper is a fiddler player from Castlefinn, Co. Donegal, now living near Dungannon, Co. Tyrone. With music from both sides of her family she is carrying on the tradition of fiddle playing. She has won numerous prestigious awards including the All-Ireland and The Fiddler of Dooney. Bríd has toured extensively and has performed with many great musicians including Dermott Byrne, Steve Cooney, Donogh Hennessy, Danny O’Mahony, Arty McGlynn and Harry Bradley.She has been hailed as one of the leading exponents of traditional fiddle playing in our time. Her first solo album was released in 2015.

Darren Breslin is an All-Ireland winning button accordion player from Lisnaskea, Co. Fermangh. He became senior All-Ireland champion in 2008. He has travelled widely playing concerts and sessions and has performed on radio and TV numerous times. At a young age he became interested in the music as his grandfather and father both played. Tommy his father plays fiddle and his sister sings and plays.Darren’s style is distinctive and infectious through his command of scales and driving rhythm. He has a large following of dedicated listeners who come from far and near to hear him every time he is in concert.
