Culture Night Sligo 2018
Culture Night takes place countrywide on Friday September 21st 2018. It’s a night of culture, of course, and also of seeing and doing something new for free as different venues across the country open their doors.
Here are some of the Sligo highlights:
2pm – 5pm Hamilton Gallery, Castle Street open their doors for ‘Ready, Steady, Draw. Are you the fastest drawer in the west? You get 15 minutes to try a still life drawing. For all ages and prizes to be won.
4pm -5pm Osta Cafe and Wine Bar. Wayne O’Connor & Cathy Quinlan present Songs by the River
4pm – 6pm Opposite Sligo Cathedral at the Summerhill entrance. Community Garden Open Evening and Nature Craft Workshop for Children. Encourage children to be involved in this beautiful community garden.
4.30pm – 5.30pm Thomas Connolly heritage pub, Sligo. Bettina Seitz hosts a clay sculpture workshop for adults and children.
6pm The Nest, Sligo – Workshop Buffet (details below) and Sligo’s new 3D Artist Collective: ‘BaHa’ launch:

6pm – 8pm Hearts Desire, Stephen Street Car park. Dark Leaves Theatre Company present Displaced. Frank has displaced his keys and Declan is afraid they will never be the same. The keys that is.
6pm – 9pm The ‘Connection’ project is artists celebrating the past history and reimaging of a new life for a currently disused Sligo town shop unit, 8 John Street.
Pop up museum/gallery/interactive space.
7pm – 8.30pm Osta Cafe and Wine Bar. Visit this interactive exhibition for all ages on the Sustainable Development Goals and share your ideas and stories on sustainable cultures with Sligo’s An Taisce Climate Ambassador Connie Nell.
7pm -9pm Radio Silence by Sligo Youth Theatre Factory Performance Space at 7pm, 8pm & 9pm. Duration 25 min.
7pm – 8.30pm Dungeons and Dragons Live at the Glasshouse Hotel. You are invited to join an audience to an exciting live session of Dungeons and Dragons. No knowledge of the game is required, just a willingness to open your imagination and be entertained!
8pm – 9pm Alice Lyons – poet in residence at the Yeats Memorial Building, Hyde Bridge.
8pm – 10pm The Model is pleased to present a series of events curated by Jennifer Walshe in response to her solo exhibition Aisteach. The galleries will be filled with music and movement in this unique presentation from Aisteach. Dancers will offer free, short group classes in a wide variety of dances and physical practices, all aimed at absolute beginners.
9.30pm – 11pm Join Cathy Jordan and her Sligo Songbirds for a singalong at the Hawk’s Well Theatre.
Outside Sligo Town
7pm – 8pm Sylvia Callan Open House in Aclare, Co. Sligo
7.30pm – 9pm Harps and Bards, Community Hall, Keash, Co. Sligo. A concert of Claire Roche, songs and harps plus local poets, storytellers, songsters and musicians.
