Ballisodare to Collooney Union Wood Walk
A new walk has recently opened from Ballisodare to Union Wood, Collooney. At the moment it’s not signposted but if you look opposite Roberto’s Takeaway in Ballisodare you’ll see a pavement at the side of a little cottage with a red door.
Walk down there and you’ll be in a housing estate alongside the river where the walk starts.
It’s a really lovely scenic walk starting alongside the river, under the railway and under the road bridges. I saw lots of birds including a heron, I also saw butterflies, damselflies and just glimpsed some deer but they moved too quickly for me to get a photo.
It’s a flat walk so not strenuous, there’s a little library which I think is a lovely idea, beside the library is a bench so you can sit and read, or you can borrow a book or swap books.
There’s also an old cottage which would be very pretty if the paintings on the windows didn’t freak me out. It seems to be like something out of a children’s fairy tale.
As you keep walking you come to a little crossroads, the left side is a dead end. I went straight on and ended up at another dead end with an old lorry. So turn right at the crossroads and you’ll end up in Union Wood, Collooney. I didn’t go as far as that but I will another day. It’s well worth checking out and lovely to see a nice flat walk. Well done to all involved.
Gorgeous pictures..looks like a lovely, pleasant walk. I thought those paintings on the cottage windows were scary too!
I’m glad it wasn’t just me
i’m glad they scared you as they are there to keep people out of the cottage.
