Ballisodare Falls

These stunning falls are in the heart of Ballisodare, you’ll notice them as you drive from the village towards Sligo town. It’s a very popular spot for fishing and is home to Ballisodare Fishing Club. There’s a viewing platform where you can view the falls but as far as I know the gate to the platform is only open when the fishermen are there.

You may be familiar with the poem by W. B. Yeats ‘Down by the Salley Gardens’. When Yeats was younger he spent some time at Avena House in Ballisodare which over looks these beautiful falls. During his time there he heard a woman singing about the Salley Gardens and this was an inspiration for his poem.

Just past the falls is Ballisodare Bay which is overlooked by Knocknarea Mountain. There’s a small car park where you can park to take photos of the bay.
