August highlights in Sligo

If you thought July was busy across the county of Sligo August is shaping up to be even busier. Here are some of our highlights for the month.
Wednesday 1st August – First Free Wednesday so free admission into Sligo Abbey and Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery.
Every Thursday during August 6pm. The Osta Sessions in Osta Cafe and Wine Bar. Live music with free admission and serving delicious light bites, coffee and wine.
3rd – 6th August. Ballymote Heritage Weekend. Outings, lectures and more in this heritage weekend which has been running since 1984.
3rd – 6th August. James Morrison Traditional Music Festival, Riverstown. Dancing, music, workshops, competitions and more.
4th August North Sligo Agricultural Show in Grange, Co. Sligo. A day of fun for all the family, live music and dancing, dog show, cattle, sheep and home industry competitions and more.
4th – 8th August The Old Fair Day in Tubbercurry. Live music, family fun and an award-winning fair day in South Sligo.
5th August 7pm. Dark Leaves Theatre Co. Old Time Radio present Sherlock Holmes and The Speckled Band at Sullivan’s on The Mall.
9th, 10th, 11th August. The Carmel Gunning International Summer School takes place in Sligo Town. Classes held in tin whistle, flute, traditional singing and mixed instruments for all levels and ages. Also a talk on variation and ornamentation. 9th – 12th August. Sligo Summer Festival, Sligo town. Live music including Example, Mike Denver, Mundy, Kieran Quinn and more. Also incorporating the Sligo Races.
11th and the 25th August. Sligo Dark Tales Walking Tour. Explore Sligo’s dark history on a walking tour revealing Sligo’s turbulent past with stories of the undead, executions, jail-breaks, disease & macabre tales.
18th August. Family Fun Day Lough Gill Hospice Swim at the Back Avenue, Doorly Park, Sligo. Dinky Diggers, Giant Bounce Castles, Zippy the Clown, Face Painting, Stilt Walkers, Arts and Crafts, Precious Pet Experience and more and all in aid of North West Hospice.
18th – 26th August. Heritage Week. A countrywide event where you can explore your heritage. Lots of events happening in Sligo and a lot of free events too for all the family.
