Armistice Day Centenary in Sligo
To mark the centenary of Armistice Day and the 609 people from County Sligo who died in the Great War, local historian Simone Hickey and the Blue Raincoat Theatre Company produced a large scale community event assembling 609 volunteers to represent all those that fell during the Great War.
The silent walk began on Wine Street, Sligo at 11.11 am. The volunteers, of all ages and denominations, walked through the town until they reached the war memorial at the top of Mail Coach Road.
A lone bugler played The Last Post and letters from the soldiers were read out to a silent crowd. It was a very moving event and you can read more about it here.
